Brand and Model - this is the Model Number the customer will be familiar with. ICOMS does not use this number.
Modem Description - This will give you the full specs of the modem. Where
32x8 is the Channels the modem supports. This one of two factors that decides how fast the modem can run. More channels = more speed. The first number is the download, the second is the upload
DOCSIS 3.1 is DOCSIS standard the modem conforms to. Higher DOCSIS versions will run faster than lower versions, regardless of the number of channels. In addition, Cox's network will not support DOCSIS modem lower than 3.0. DOCSIS 2.0 and earlier modems are not supported
Cable Modem refers to the type of modem, this being a standalone modem You will also see:
WiFi Modem - a modem with a WiFi router buit in
Dual Band - Refers to a WiFi modem with 2 wireless networks
Single Band - Refers to a WiFi modem with only 1 Wireless network
Telephone Modem - Means the modem supports telephone service
These modems are exclusively rented from Cox
All Panoramic modems are telephone modems
Item Number and Service Code Pre-requisite - This is defining the Item Number and Service Codes that are needed in order to use this modem. When reading this, remember the following:
An item number starting with "D" is a Cox purchased, or Cox rental modem. An item number starting with "R" is a retail modem.
You will never need to enter an item number starting with "D" into ICOMS. Because these modems originated from Cox, they will populate automatically when you enter the serial number, and press enter. If they do not, the serial number is either incorrect, or this modem cannot be used in the customer's market.
The Pre-req number is the Service Code required to be on the account before you can provision the modem
These are the codes you will find and change on the HS screen if needed
Some modems will have several compatible service codes, but you will only ever be able to enter one.
Highest Compatible Package - This is the highest speed Cox has validated the modem to run at. If the customer's speed tier is higher than this, you will not be able to provision the modem
Some manufacturers will claim on their packaging that they go "Up to XXX mbps", which may contradict our speeds. This is because the manufacture is listing the maximum theoretical speeds, where Cox is validating the modem to be able to achieve those speeds in the real world
My WiFi Compatible - Whether or not the modem is compatible with the My WiFi portal at Cox.com/MyWiFi
Only Cox rental modems can be My WiFi comptaible
cox.com/MyWiFi is not the same as wifi.cox.com
